Notes |
- For around 150 years the Savage family and the Dutton family lived in the the small Nottinghamshire villages of Ruddington, Barton Fabris and Sutton Bonnington.
Charles Savage is descended from the first Savage to enter the country with William in 1066 -Thomas le Sauvage.
The family took up residence in Seacliffe after moving in from Avranches and then moved to Stainsby in Derbyshire. They moved to Clifton in Cheshire in the 14th century and then began to climb the ranks of the aristocracy.
For 200 years all the first born sons were called John.
Sir John Savage 1370-1450 distinguished himself at Agincourt and was knighted on the field by Henry V, He fought alongside Thomas Dutton, who had been knighted 2 years before.
His mother, Margaret Danyers was descended from Odard de Dutton (via the Cheadle Dutton branch) the first Dutton to come to England and his daughter, also Margaret, married into another branch of the family - John, 13th Lord of Dutton.
Both families had a branch which then moved to Ruddington. Interestingly the Wakeling family lived in Ruddington and emigrated to New Zealand
