Alwiena Mattwig

Notes:

Alwiena arrived with her family at the Port of Napier, Ahuriri, New Zealand on the ship "The Friedeburg" on the 18th September 1875.She was two years of age.

Alwiena married Francis Kemp on 11th April 1889 when she was 15 years of age and Francis was 26 years of age.

Francis died in August 1889 and Alwiena moved in with his parents. Her first child Francis was born 22nd March 1890.
According to family, Henry, (Francis's younger brother), was ordered by his father to look after Alwiena & baby Francis.

Henry & Alwiena then had three children. The children were grown up and married themselves before Henry & Alwiena were finally married in 1939.
This was because the law at that time prohibited a brother to marry his brother's widow. This law was changed in 1937.

1. Francis Kemp was born 22 Mar 1890, Auckland, New Zealand; died 13 Jun 1971, Ellerslie, Auckland, New Zealand.

Alwiena married Henry Kemp 2 Mar 1939 (New Zealand Marriage Record - 1939/3238), Auckland, New Zealand. Henry (son of Thomas Kemp and Elizabeth Oliver) was born 25 Feb 1868, Pakuranga, Auckland, New Zealand; died 17 Aug 1943, Papatoetoe, Auckland, New Zealand; was buried , Otahuhu, Auckland, New Zealand . 1. Violet Kemp was born 17 Apr 1894, Otaua, Auckland, New Zealand; died 05 Sept 1974, Auckland, New Zealand.
2. Percy Kemp was born 17 Mar 1897, Otaua Nth Auckland New Zealand; died 16 Jun 1958, Blenheim New Zealand; was buried 18 Jun 1958, Omaka Cemetery No.3, Blenheim, New Zealand.
3. Sydney Kemp was born 30 Jul 1898, Otaua, Auckland, New Zealand; died 23 May 1981, Mangere, Auckland, New Zealand.

Notes:

Julius with his wife Augusta & family arrived into the Napier Port, New Zealand on the Friedeburg on 18th September 1875.
His birth town of "Mariendorf" was just North of Kassel in Germany.
Julius's surname "Mattwig" was sometimes spelt "Matwich, or Matwig, or Matwic"

Augusta with her husband Julius & family arrived into the Napier Port, New Zealand on the Friedeburg on 18th September 1875.
Her birth town in Germany was originally called 'Schonlanke" but this was later changed to "Trzcianke" in 1941.
Augusta is buried along with her daughter Augusta Mattwig in the Waipukurau Cemetery in New Zealand.
