    Notes:

    Frederick Johnston was a polygamist, he married Amy Reay, Violet Perry, Veronica Kirkbride and Marjorie Trevathick, before Amy died, and did not divorce any of them.
    He lied about his parents names, his age and his profession....

    Frederick James Johnston was born 13th July 1880 in Cuba Street, Wellington New Zealand. He was born Frederick James Loose Jones. One year after his birth, his mother, Margaret Millicent Jones married Hugh Johnston, who then adopted him.

    He married Amy Elizabeth Reay on 24th June 1902 in Waverley, New Zealand.
    Children of the marriage was Alice May Iris Johnston born at Mahoe 1904, Dagmar Johnston born 1906 at Mahoe NZ, Eric Stewart Johnston born 2 October 1907 at Mahoe, Earl McGregor Johnston born 29 January 1910 at Hawera NZ.
    They immigrated to Victoria Australia about 1911 - 1913 and Mavis Hope Johnston was born in February 1914 but only lived for one month. Colin Reay Johnston was born 24 July 1916. On 25th October 1914......................................................................

    When Frederick joined the Army in 1914 he enlisted as Fredrick Ormand Johnston aged 28 years and 3 months, (he was actually 34 years of age)
    Occupation: On enlistment papers he says he was an Electrical Engineer
    He enlisted as Married to Amy Johnston with no children, of Warragul Victoria. Number 1526, December 1914: He embarked with the 8th A.S.C. at Melbourne aboard 'Ceramic' for Egypt. Duties stated in his army records he was a cleaner. See the National Archives to find a digital copy of his army records. ............................................................

    When Frederick was in England he promised to marry Sarah Busby and they became engaged. Sarah found out he was already married
    There was a baby girl, Gertrude Violet born on 7 February 1916. Birth Certificate BXCB 730517, Lewisham, County of London. Source see National Archives Australia from Frederick's war Service Record 1526.
    In England, Frederick became a bigamist the first time when he married Violet Perry. She had a daughter, Ngarie Violet Ormond-Johnston, born 13 March 1918, she was born after Frederick had returned to Australia. ..............................................................................................

    After returning to Australia he married Veronica Kirkbride in 1919 in Sydney another bigamist marriage and they had a daughter Ngarie (she later changed the spelling of her name to Ngaere) born 25 Jan 1920 in Victoria. Note he had 2 daughters with the same name Ngarie * We later found there is a small place called Ngaere near Stratford in NZ. ...............................................................

    In 1928: There was an inquiry from Australia House in London to the Attorney Generals Department in Melbourne as Mrs Johnston in England was looking for her husband seeking support for herself and child.
    After or during the enquiry Frederick abandoned Veronica and Ngaere. According to Ngaere's cousin Betty Phillips he went to get some milk and he never returned!

    Frederick's next known address was 33 Kinross Avenue Blockhouse Bay, Auckland New Zealand - source NAA army records.
    Jill Macgregor (Ngaere's daughter) told me Ngaere and cousin Betty Phillips went to NZ in 1947 to find Frederick, she knocked on his door when she said "I'm your daughter" he replied " Madam you have the advantage of me !!! Call me Uncle!!"
    Ngaere and Betty stayed with him for a few weeks but after that was made to feel it was time to leave - said Betty Phillips now aged 80 years. ............................................................

    There is a gap in time here between 1928 and 1947 we don't know where Fred was (yet) so there could be more wives and children !!
    Fredericks Death Certificate reveals he married again in 1948 in NZ to Marjorie Trevithick on December 24th 1947 in Auckland NZ.
    On the marriage certificate his age is stated as 54 but he was actually 67. Marjorie was 29 years old (the same age as his daughter Ngaere) ................................................................................................

    Each time Frederick was married he changed his parent's names or and his occupation but he is linked by a paper trail being his Army Record, the Governor General Enquiry in 1928, his Birth certificate, 4 Marriage certificates,9 Children?s Birth certificates and his 1 Death certificate all of which I have copies ( Aileen Johnston )
