Mary Ann was born in a small cottage at the corner of Durham Street and Queen Street in Auckland NZ.
She is claimed to be the first white girl born in Queen Street.
Mary Ann lived in Auckland all her life and when she died the property on the corner of Durham & Queen Streets was sold and the proceeds divided among the many descendants. (including 52 grandchildren). Her granddaughter Rita Omundsen (nee Benefield) recalls receiving 13 shillings and four pence and was delighted to spend it on a pair of new bras.
Her husband James Joseph Murphy died of cancer in Wanganui and is buried there in the old Heads Road Cemetery.
Mary Ann is buried in the Waikumete Cemetry, Glen Eden Auckland with her infant son Louis. There is no headstone
